Fantastic Frontiers: Illustrations by Alexandre Roy

French illustrator Alexandre Roy, also known as Royalex, creates sprawling imaginary worlds filled with strange creatures, towering plants, distant planets and lone travelers moving through unfamiliar landscapes. His intricate linework and surreal sci-fi settings remind us of the work of Moebius, the late French artist known for Arzach and his collaboration with Alejandro Jodorowsky on The Incal.

In Alexandre’s scenes, astronauts approach futuristic cities beneath enormous planets, explorers investigate mysterious organisms, and tiny figures wander through deserts populated by alien wildlife and monumental structures. That sense of scale is a recurring part of his work. Human figures are often dwarfed by the landscapes and lifeforms around them, turning each composition into a moment of discovery.
