Altar I Keyboard by Electronic Materials Office
Published Sep 25, 2024
The Altar I keyboard, developed by Electronic Materials Office, is a sleek product crafted from high-end, sustainable materials.
The London-based startup was founded by Andrew Emerson, a designer by trade who ventured into the world of keyboard manufacturing looking to overcome his frustrations with the bulky and overly flashy options available in the market. Despite his initial lack of knowledge in industrial design and electronics, Andrew’s commitment led to the creation of the Altar I, a product that combines minimalist design with advanced functionality.
A key focus for Andrew was to ensure that the Altar I was highly sustainable. With that in mind, the keyboard features a precision-machined aluminum monobody and plastic components made with 50% recycled materials. The packaging is also environmentally friendly, using a biodegradable clamshell case made from sugar cane pulp.
When it comes to specs, the Altar I uses Kailh Choc switches, designed to provide a tactile yet quiet typing experience, and comes equipped with dual Bluetooth connectivity and a USB-C port, allowing users to connect it to multiple devices. With a battery capacity of 200mAh, it boasts an impressive battery life of up to 21 days on a single charge.
