Unhappy Boy: A Moody Cast of Characters by Tzeho Lai
Published Dec 18, 2024
Unhappy Boy is a quirky collection of unique 3D characters created by Chinese digital artist Tzeho Lai.
This series brings to life a gloomy but oddly charming cast of characters, each one reflecting the ups and downs of being a bit pessimistic. The designs are whimsical and relatable, including an overworked office worker who’s clearly had it, a moody young artist, a grumpy explorer, and even a guy who spends all day in his dinosaur pyjamas.
Lai describes the concept saying, “There may be some people who are naturally pessimistic, they are always unhappy, they always force themselves to do things they don’t like, they always have many troubles, but they never give up on life.” The characters’ frowny expressions and awkward poses really highlight their struggles, but there’s still something resilient about their melancholic charm.
