Princess Tales: Paintings by Olga Esther
Published Aug 13, 2024
Spanish artist Olga Esther crafts a compelling narrative through her expressive paintings, using the symbolism of fairy tales and princess stories to explore themes of gender and feminism.
Her work often revolves around “princesses who don’t want to be princesses”. These young girls are not damsels in distress waiting to be saved, they are figures rebelling against the constraints imposed upon them. Olga’s powerful images serve as allegories for the forgotten and “invisible ones” who suffer in silence, drawing attention to them.
“She paints the invisible ones, the little forgotten girls, the little nobodies of this world, but above all, all those who do not have anyone.”
