Painting With Light: Prismatic Glass Art by Chris Wood

Nearly a decade after we previously featured Chris Wood’s mesmerizing glass installations, the UK-based artist continues to transform light into a vibrant, ever-changing medium. Working primarily with dichroic glass and other optical materials, Chris creates intricate wall-mounted pieces that split and redirect light into shifting spectrums of cyan, magenta, yellow, violet and green.

Her compositions range from sweeping concentric curves to dense grids and mathematical arrangements made from hundreds of individual glass elements. The underlying structures are precise and methodical, but the results are wonderfully unpredictable. As light passes through the transparent pieces, colors overlap and scatter across the surrounding surfaces, producing luminous shadows and projections that can change dramatically depending on the viewing angle, lighting conditions and time of day.
