Lighthouses: A Striking Series by Aliaume Chapelle

Published Feb 23, 2024

Nature photographer Aliaume Chapelle beautifully captured the lighthouses scattered throughout the Finistère region of France to produce a breathtaking series of photographs.

The “Lighthouses” series showcases these guiding beacons standing tall amidst rugged coastlines and tumultuous seas. Each image in the series is a study in contrasts, highlighting the steadfast solidity of the lighthouses against the ever-changing moods of the sea and sky, and the harsh, unyielding stone against the soft play of light and shadow.

“Lighthouses are endlessly suggestive signifiers of both human isolation and our ultimate connectedness to each other”

— Virginia Woolf

Aliaume’s masterful use of lighting sets a mood that is both haunting and beautiful. The lighthouses stand resolute symbolizing hope amidst adversity. He has managed to bring out the soul of these timeless structures, capturing their raw beauty and inherent symbolism in a way few have managed before.
