Layered Worlds: Paper Narratives by Adrian & Gidi
Published Apr 17, 2026
Amsterdam-based creative duo Adrian & Gidi have spent over a decade building intricate paper worlds that sit at the edge of craft and storytelling. Their work uses folds, cuts and stacked layers to turn flat sheets into detailed, self-contained environments.
The pair met at the Royal Academy of Arts and have since developed a practice that treats paper not as a substitute for other media, but as a language in its own right. They move easily between ideas, from the geometric tension of a faceted ocean to the stillness of a monochromatic winter cityscape. Each composition is carefully planned, then built by hand, layer by layer, before being lit and captured in studio.
Over the years, they have collaborated with a wide range of clients including Apple, Vogue and Montblanc. For more of their fascinating creations, head over to their website.
