Graphite Pencil Sculptures by Jasenko Dordevic

Published Mar 20, 2023

Pencils are objects that are often used to draw scenes or tell stories. Bosnian artist Jasenko Dordevic takes that concept and flips it on its head, creating narratives by carving complex miniature sculptures from the graphite tips of pencils.

These miniature sculptures are incredibly detailed and require precision and skill. The artist spends hours carving each piece with sharp scalpels and needles, taking between 5 to 10 hours to produce the rough initial shape and a few days to complete the finer details. In his words:

“Ever since my early childhood, I was mesmerized and inspired by miniature.”

“Having rich imagination, steady and precise hand and a lot of patience, I have started creating art from a very unlikely object – a pencil. Although the pencil has been used to serve a man and create art since time immemorial, I have decided to try to change the sequence of events and its primary purpose.”

— Jasenko Dordevic

His work is truly remarkable and it is hard not to be impressed by his attention to detail, his creativity, and his ability to bring life into something so small.
