Fluid Optical Sculptures by Bayne Peterson
Published Jun 2, 2023
Artist Bayne Peterson creates captivating sculptural objects out of dyed plywood by utilizing intricate optical patterns and a vibrant layered technique.
His works feature fluid forms and complex optical structures, taking cues from biomorphic abstraction and modernism. Peterson’s sculptures have been exhibited in a number of galleries across the globe, including the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, the RISD Museum, the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Arts and Design, and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, among others.
The process of creating these sculptures is a labor of love for Peterson. He sketches out voluptuous and sinuous shapes before carving them into the plywood and splicing the segments into eye-catching patterns. The result is extraordinary sculptural works that are truly unique and beautiful.
