Flags of Nature: Hyper-Real Landscapes by Paulo de Almeida
Published Apr 21, 2026
Dubai-based digital artist Paulo de Almeida turns national symbolism on its head with Flags of Nature, a series of photorealistic 3D images that replaces fabric and color blocks with the actual terrain, flora and seasonal conditions of each country.
The concept is simple: national symbols rebuilt from the landscapes that inspired them. Canada’s red-and-white triband becomes fallen maple leaves pressed into fresh snow, while Denmark’s cross emerges from gaps between tree canopies. Produced entirely in 3D using MODO, ZBrush, Substance Painter and Photoshop, the series avoids the sterile look that often traps CG nature work, holding onto texture, light and subtle imperfection.
