Ethereal Stories: Illustrations by Wenkai Mao

Published Sep 12, 2019

New York-based artist Wenkai Mao creates illustrations featuring dreamlike scenarios and stories that are open the viewer’s interpretation.

“As an illustrator, I am always interested in the pictorial relationship between figures and their environment. Exploring these recreational activities is an effective way to connect people and the space surrounds them.

I also try to give my works certain degrees of narrative depth without too much drama. The moments I chose always appear quiet and peaceful at first sight, but they are designed to offer the audience as much space as possible to imagine the story behind.”
