Endangered Animal Portraits by Rohan Dahotre
Published Jun 29, 2026
Indian illustrator and wildlife artist Rohan Dahotre creates expressive animal portraits that capture the beauty, character and fragility of the natural world.
In his endangered species collection, familiar animals like the tiger, koala and giant panda sit alongside species that rarely get the spotlight, including the indri, sloth bear and African wild dog. Rohan gives them equal scale and equal intensity, presenting biodiversity as something worth celebrating before it disappears.
Each animal is rendered with dense, energetic strokes that radiate from the fur to the edge of the canvas. The effect turns them into sources of light rather than subjects under observation. Conservation imagery often leans into loss and melancholy, but Rohan inverts that instinct with saturated color and a frontal, unblinking gaze, honoring these marvelous creatures with dignity instead of pity.
