ESR Qi2 3-in-1 MagSafe Wireless Chargers Review

After launching the world’s first Qi2 car charger at CES 2024 earlier this year, ESR has been expanding their lineup of fast-charging Apple-certified accessories. In this article we’ll take a look at two of these new MagSafe products: the 15W Qi2 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand and a more compact, travel-friendly version ideal for charging all your devices on the go.

If you’re not familiar with Qi2, it is the latest standard in wireless charging, which can deliver up to 15W of power for faster charging. Another key upgrade is the Magnetic Power Profile, a feature that is based on Apple’s MagSafe and allows devices to be perfectly aligned with chargers, thanks to a powerful magnetic connection. This new technology is the main selling point for the ESR products featured in this article.

What’s in the box?

Starting with the 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand, inside the box you’ll find the stand itself, a power adapter and USB-C cable, as well as a handy portable Apple Watch charger that can be connected to the stand (more on this later).

The Qi2 3-in-1 Travel Wireless Charging Set comes with a collapsible iPhone stand, power adapter, USB-C cable and an Apple Watch charger similar to the one included with the 3-in-1 Charging Stand. Depending on the option you choose, you will also get a nice carry bag that you can use to store the stand and all of its accessories.

Design & Build Quality

Let’s take a look at the overall design and build quality of these charging stations.

Qi2 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand

The ESR Qi2 Charging Stand looks great straight out of the box, with a minimal and functional design that looks sleek with or without any devices attached to it. We are looking at the black version in this review, but a white variant is also available.

This stand can charge 3 devices at the same time, including an iPhone attached to the MagSafe compatible ring, AirPods (or any other earphones with a wireless charging case) at the base, and an Apple Watch at the back.

The stand is quite sturdy, it has a nice weight to it and the build quality is excellent, with strong magnets for the iPhone attachment and premium materials throughout. The glossy finish on the magnetic ring surface beautifully complements the sleek, minimalist look of this product.

We love the fact that the Apple Watch module at the back of the stand is detachable and USB-C compatible, making it a great portable solution for charging your watch on the go.

Qi2 3-in-1 Travel Wireless Charging Set

The travel charging set features the same charging abilities of the 3-in-1 stand, in a more compact, collapsible form factor. It’s also very light, weighing just 4.58 oz (131 grams). This one is available in black, white and a nice brown/caramel color.

The build quality here is also fantastic, with a beautiful faux leather texture and a sturdy folding mechanism that feels very reliable and will hopefully stand the test of time. The magnetic ring is clearly delineated on the charging surface and the iPhone stays firmly attached to it when connected, thanks to its strong magnets.

The Apple Watch module used her is also detachable, which is a nice bonus.

The compact design of this charging set makes it a fantastic travel companion.

Performance

These charging stations certainly look great, but how well do they actually work? Let’s take a look.

Qi2 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand

As mentioned previously, the ESR 3-in-1 stand can charge an iPhone, Apple Watch and Airpods simultaneously. It can be used with all MagSafe compatible devices (iPhone 12 and above), and the Qi2 certification means you will get a 15W charging experience for your phone, which is twice as fast as a standard charger. The Apple Watch module and Airpods charging base both deliver 5w charging, which works well for these smaller devices. In our testing, we were able to get a full charge on the Apple Watch in just under 2 hours.

The fact that the Apple Watch module is detachable and easy to carry in your pocket is a great addition, as you can simply attach it to a USB-C port in your laptop or docking station to charge your watch when you’re away from the stand.

The iPhone stand can be used in portrait or landscape mode, so you can watch videos, use FaceTime or just have it in standby mode on your nightstand.

Although the stand is designed for iPhones, you can actually use it to charge Android phones as well, as long as you have a MagSafe style case with a magnetic ring on the back. We have tested the ESR stand with a Google Pixel phone and it worked significantly better than Google’s own Pixel charging stand (2nd Gen).

The base of the stand allows you to charge not only Airpods, but any earphones with a wireless charging case, like the popular Sony WF-1000XM5.

It’s worth mentioning that the power cable that connects the stand to its charging brick is USB-C and detachable, so you also have the option to plug it directly into your devices in situations where you need to charge them in the quickest way possible.

When it comes to performance, the 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Set matches the charging abilities of the 3-in-1 charging stand, with the added bonus of portability. The angle of the iPhone holder can be adjusted, and it also supports standby mode.

If you’re planning to use one of these chargers as a more permanent solution for work or at home, we would recommend going with the 3-in-1 charging stand, as these products are exactly the same price, and the stand is a more premium solution. But if you travel a lot or are always on the move, working between different locations, the 3-in-1 travel set might be the better option for you. When folded, the stand is very thin, measuring 0.63 in (1.6 cm), so you can easily throw it in your pocket, or carry it around in the optional travel case.

We have mentioned the detachable Apple Watch charger previously, which is also a feature of the 3-in-1 Stand, and this is one of our favorite aspects of these charging stations.

This little module comes with a magnetic lid, so the USB-C connection can stay protected when you throw the charger in your bag or carry it in your pocket.

This gives you the flexibility to use the watch charging module not only with the portable stand but also connected to a computer, a USB-C hub, your iPhone or even plugged directly to the wall using a USB-C power brick.

Price

In terms of pricing, both the Qi2 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand and travel set are currently available on Amazon for $59.99 each, and for an extra $5 you can get the travel set + a sleek carry case ($64.99 total). This pricing makes the ESR products significantly cheaper than similar charging stations from competitors like Anker and Belkin.

Verdict

These new Qi2 3-in-1 charging stations from ESR are excellent charging solutions at a very affordable price, particularly when compared to other products currently available on the market. If you’re looking for a more permanent solution for your home or office, the 3-in-1 wireless charging stand is definitely the way to go. But for those who are always on the move, the travel set is a fantastic solution as well. Both models come with a detachable Apple Watch charging module, adding an extra layer of convenience to the overall package.
