Brushstrokes Suspended in Time: Fabian Oefner’s Volumen Series
Published Mar 7, 2025
Fabian Oefner‘s work never ceases to amaze us, and he continues to push boundaries with his latest series, Volumen. This mesmerizing collection of four sculptures reimagines what painting can be, transforming brushstrokes into physical objects. By using resin and acrylic paint, Fabian allows the textures and fluidity of paint to leave the flatness of canvas behind, creating abstract forms that seem to float in mid-air. The interplay between movement and stillness in these sculptures is fascinating; they feel like snapshots of motion, forever suspended in time.
To craft these incredible pieces, Fabian drew inspiration from artists like Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock, whose richly layered pieces blur the line between painting and sculpture. His unique approach removes the canvas entirely, letting the paint itself take center stage. This bold move turns brushstrokes into sculptural elements, as though he has preserved the act of painting mid-motion.
Volumen marks a new chapter in Fabian’s ongoing exploration of the nature of paint and movement. His past work used forces like gravity and centrifugal energy to capture fleeting moments in photographs. Now, with this series, those ephemeral actions find permanence. It’s a fascinating shift for Fabian, one that invites us to rethink what we expect from a painting and challenges us to see the physicality of art in an entirely new light.
