Where Light Falls: Landscape Photography by Martin Rak

Prague-based photographer Martin Rak returns to the grid with a new selection of images exploring the shifting moods of the natural world. Since we last featured his work in 2020, he has continued to photograph landscapes across the Czech Republic and beyond, moving between sweeping vistas and smaller natural details found in forests and fields.

The standout here is a sequence captured during the partial solar eclipse of August 12, 2026, when the moon covered more than 80 percent of the sun shortly before sunset. Martin lined up the narrowing crescent with Jested, the peak above the city of Liberec crowned by Karel Hubacek’s needle-shaped hotel and transmitter tower. It’s a breathtaking alignment that lasted only a few minutes.

In other images, Martin turns his attention to fog-covered castles, rolling fields, frost-coated forests and the textures hidden underfoot. Across both grand landscapes and intimate studies, his photographs show a patient eye for fleeting conditions, graphic shapes and the subtle transformations that weather and changing seasons can bring.
