Wallpaper Abstractions: Intricate Tactile Collages by Amy Feigley-Lee
Published Aug 7, 2025
Detroit-based artist Amy Feigley-Lee transforms vintage wallpaper into mesmerizing sculptural collages in her ongoing series Wallpaper Abstractions. Each piece is a vibrant meditation on form, color and texture, cut and assembled by hand with obsessive care.
With a background in sculpture and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Amy brings a dimensional quality to her wall-mounted works. Geometric shapes pulse with rhythm and illusion, emerging from the surface like origami reliefs. Floral motifs and retro prints are meticulously woven, layered and spliced into kaleidoscopic compositions that shift between order and chaos.
Rooted in formalist principles and tactile process, Amy describes her work as “slow” — a meditative act of slicing, sorting and assembling. She likens her process to therapy: a way of connecting past and future through color and composition. By repurposing old wallpaper, her abstractions breathe new life into forgotten domestic materials, turning them into portals of visual complexity and emotional resonance.
