Vintage Hollywood Movie Lights by John Scarpati
Published Apr 8, 2019
Back in 2012, photographer John Scarpati started a personal side project retrofitting old Hollywood movie lights for use on his own shoots.
“That quickly led to converting the fixtures with standard home elections so they could be used on sets, as props in videos, film, and for event rentals. The next progression was selling to friends and family who wanted one for themselves. My 1st home version available to the public followed in 2014, via my Etsy shop“, he explains.
It takes dedication to find the right lights to repurpose, and John takes it very seriously – “These are the real-deal – the lights that literally helped define Hollywood’s golden age. The character and cool factor are far beyond the offshore knockoffs you’ll find in upscale malls. Each one is refurbished and refinished by hand, and truly unique.“
He recently decided to take the next step with the project and launch the Old Hollywood Light Company, in an effort to “save these magnificent fixtures from the scrap yards before it’s too late”.
