The New Game Boy: An Ingenious Modular Concept

The New Game Boy is an incredible concept by Korean design collective LFD, reimagining the classic handheld with a new look and cutting-edge features.

This modular gaming system takes cues from the vertical design of the original Game Boy and combines it with the flexibility of the Nintendo Switch. LFD created a clever design with removable parts, including a controller and a small projector, allowing players to enjoy their games on a big screen anywhere they go. The battery and speaker modules are also detachable, so users can easily swap out these components as needed.

The screen is made from durable Gorilla Glass and supports touch functionality, opening up new gameplay possibilities. And to take the interactive experience even further, the device also includes an integrated gyroscope for added immersion.

When it comes to the overall aesthetic, the handheld looks amazing, featuring a transparent polycarbonate shell that highlights its internal components. The LFD team explored this nostalgic see-through design in a variety of colors, including clear, red, green, purple and blue.

For now, the New Game Boy is just a concept, but we really hope a handheld manufacturer will bring this ingenious concept to life in the future.
