The Ice Cave: New Photos by Maxime Daviron
Published Dec 15, 2025
We can’t get enough of stunning photos of ice caves (or the work of Maxime Daviron) and this new series from the French photographer delivers in spectacular fashion. Shot in the Pyrenees Mountains, The Ice Cave takes us beneath one of the region’s last surviving glaciers, a fragile landscape that is expected to vanish within the next few years.
Maxime describes the cave as a seasonal formation carved by the steady flow of melting ice. That process is bittersweet. It is a sign of the glacier’s decline, yet it also creates a rare passage into its interior, revealing sculptural walls shaped over thousands of years. Inside, he captures the glacier like a living archive, full of rippling textures, deep blue gradients and polished surfaces that catch the light in luminous patterns.
Maxime frames these formations not only as artworks created by nature, but as historical layers on the verge of disappearing. His photographs preserve that story with clarity and reverence, allowing us to witness a place that feels ancient and otherworldly.
