“The Greenhouse Series” is yet another striking collection of images by Tom Hegen, a German photographer with a strong focus on aerial projects.

This series takes us on an eye-opening journey through the vast fields of indoor crops in the Netherlands. The images are breathtaking and showcase the sheer scale of these greenhouses that can be found in the Dutch landscape. From his website:

“According to the United Nations, the world’s population will grow from today’s 7.5 billion people to 10 billion in 2050. And as natural resources like farmland and water become scarce, feeding the world will become an even greater challenge. Researchers in the Netherlands are experimenting with one way to feed more people with using less land, by growing crops indoors.”

Tom’s stunning aerial shots capture the intricate patterns and shapes created by rows upon rows of greenhouse structures, each filled with thriving crops grown using LED lighting technology. The images are also a reminder that this advanced growing method brings some negative consequences with it, such as light pollution from the excessive use of LEDs which can disrupt the natural patterns of wildlife and contribute to the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
