Surreal Realism: Juan Ford’s Transformative Oil Paintings
Published Aug 4, 2025
Australian artist Juan Ford blurs the boundaries between humanity and the natural world in his hyperrealistic oil on linen paintings. Known for his meticulous detail and conceptual depth, Juan creates striking portraits where human figures are adorned or even consumed by foliage, industrial materials and found objects.
His work pushes the boundaries of realism, turning familiar elements into surreal, almost futuristic visions. Figures wrapped in leaves, branches or synthetic wraps stand against vast skies and empty landscapes, evoking themes of camouflage, fragility and adaptation.
Juan’s paintings have been exhibited globally, from Art Basel Hong Kong to solo shows at Palazzo Bembo in Venice, and his career includes prestigious awards and residencies across Australia, Italy, and the United States.
