Solstice 2.0: A Sculptural Timepiece That Moves with the Sun
Published Jun 19, 2025
London-based studio Animaro is back with an updated take on its kinetic timepiece, the Solstice. Originally launched in 2019, the original design stood out for its poetic approach to timekeeping, favoring movement and light over hands and numbers. Now with Solstice 2.0, the studio is refining the concept with improved mechanics, upgraded materials and a limited Kickstarter release of just 80 units.
Instead of showing time in the usual way, the piece slowly transforms throughout the day, expanding like a flower in full bloom at midday and contracting again by evening. It’s a quiet, meditative alternative to the ticking of a standard clock, designed to remind us of time’s natural rhythm rather than its constant demands. A touch sensor allows users to toggle between its standard 12-hour cycle and a 60-second demo mode that puts the motion on full display.
The new version is available in three finishes, walnut, oak and sapele, each built around a finely machined aluminum core. Hand-assembled and made in small batches, Solstice 2.0 is as much a piece of kinetic sculpture as it is a timekeeper, perfect for anyone looking to bring a slower, more thoughtful sense of time into their space. You can learn more about the project on its Kickstarter campaign page.
