The Sneaker Dot-to-Dot Book by James Oconnell
Published Nov 29, 2018
Talented creative director, illustrator and all-round nice guy James Oconnell was invited by a publishing house to create a book filled with dot-2-dot illlustrations based on contemporary sneaker culture.
“It’s not often you get the chance to combine both your passion for sneakers and creativity into one project – so this was a dream!
With the web being filled with inspiration sites leading people to the latest and greatest (sometimes weird) sneakers, I wanted the concept to be based around the core idea of joining them all together. This is where Joining the dots of sneaker culture was born.
The project consisted of 32 pages and 13 sneakers with the dot-2-dots ranging in difficulty. Issue #1 sneaker breakdown:
1. Nike Air Jordan Mid ’07
2. Converse all-stars high top
3. Adidas Superstar
4. Nike Air Max 97
5. Reebok InstaPump Fury
6. New Balance 574
7. Puma Disc Blaze
8. Pharrell Williams x adidas NMD Hu Trail
9. Vans Old Skool
10. Onitsuka Tiger Low x High
11. LA Gear Flame High
12. Saucony Shadow 5000
13. Adidas NMD
After establishing an imposition plan for the book outlining all the content – the next stage was to create a proof of concept which would define the size of the dots, numbers and complexity of each sneaker.”
