Shape Studies: Abstract Geometric Artworks by Ray Dak Lam
Published Jul 13, 2023
“Shape Studies” is a collection of abstract geometric compositions by Edmonton-based graphic designer and illustrator Ray Dak Lam. He started this personal project during the pandemic as a creative outlet and it has continued to be an ongoing endeavor ever since.
At its core, the series is an exploration of shapes and colors. Each piece in the collection is a carefully composed arrangement of geometric forms – an ongoing experiment, as Ray describes it.
“Working within the basic fundamentals of shape of shape, line and texture, I explore the limitless graphic possibilities that arise from these foundations.”
Ray cites the Bauhaus style as one of his influences, which is evident in the minimalist aesthetic and structured approach of his designs. This style, rooted in modernism and characterized by simple graphic shapes and a restrained color palette, is a fitting platform for his explorations of form and composition.
