Pixel Personalities: Portraits by Arthur Vista

Ukrainian digital artist Arthur Vista, now based in Tokyo, brings an impressive amount of personality to the humble pixel. While his wider practice spans environments, animation, character design and UX for games, his portraits show just how expressive a tightly controlled grid of colored blocks can become.

Arthur’s subjects range from mice in circus outfits, cats in military uniforms and fantastical creatures like dragons and wyverns. Working in the medium for the past seven years, he has specialized in pixel art for games, creating everything from cozy scenes to cyberpunk worlds across platformers, isometric projects and top-down titles. He currently works at indie studio Spellbrush, following previous long-term roles with TinyBuild and Paper Sword Games, alongside numerous freelance game projects.
