Pixel Art Illustrations and Typography by Jude Buffum

American illustrator and art director Jude Buffum has spent more than two decades building a career out of tiny squares. Working under the studio name The Pixel Artist, he creates custom, AI-free pixel art that channels the language of classic games into illustrations, animations, packaging, branded experiences and fully playable arcade projects.

The choice to craft images by placing every pixel by hand feels different now than it once did. As generated imagery floods commercial projects, Jude builds things the slow way, block by block, on an 8-bit grid he treats as a discipline rather than a nostalgia filter. Within that constraint, his portfolio ranges widely, including animated stickers for Star Wars, pixel packaging for Hasbro’s Marvel Gamerverse, gift cards for Target, and beer cans that celebrate Kaiju films and pro wrestling.

His compositions often look like rediscovered screenshots from games that never existed, packed with visual gags, bold typography, detailed sprites and a deep love for the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. That connection to games is especially clear in projects like PB Rush, a branded racing game created for Psycho Bunny and installed across four linked arcade cabinets at the 2026 F1 Miami Grand Prix.
