Neue DIN: A German Type Icon Reimagined by Fontwerk
Published Jan 30, 2023
Berlin-based type foundry Fontwerk have just released their eagerly anticipated new font family, Neue DIN. Envisioned as a modern take on the classic German typeface, it was completely redesigned to create a dynamic and versatile variable font.
Hendrik Weber (Type Director of KMS Team) worked in close collaboration with Andreas Frohloff (Freelance Type Director) and Fontwerk’s font engineer Olli Meier to reimagine this iconic typeface with a variable-first approach.
Neue DIN can go from a compact look to extreme widths, all without losing its sense of sophistication. It’s an elegant typeface, crafted to answer the needs of a dynamic world, and just like its iconic predecessor 100 years ago, it was designed and produced entirely in Berlin.
‘With its multitude of details and long-awaited flexibility, our brand new release adds a vital new variant to the range of DIN typefaces.’
— Ivo Gabrowitsch, Founder of Fontwerk
