Neon-Soaked Comics: Striking Artworks by Kongkee
Published May 30, 2024
Kongkee, aka KONG Khong-chang, is a visual artist and animation director who spends his time between London and Hong Kong creating vibrant pieces with a distinctive neon-soaked aesthetic. His work blends elements of cyberpunk and traditional Chinese art, resulting in a unique visual landscape that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new.
Kongkee’s major solo exhibition, Kongkee: Warring States Cyberpunk, debuted at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco in 2022. This exhibit was a groundbreaking exploration of the intersection between ancient Chinese history and retro-futuristic aesthetics, featuring intricate illustrations bathed in neon hues. The exhibition’s success led to its tour to the Wrightwood 659 Museum in Chicago and Tai Kwun in Hong Kong, where it continued to receive acclaim for its originality and evocative visual style.
