Melted Anime Sculptures & Art Installations by Three

Published Dec 13, 2023

Japanese art collective Three produces distinctive artworks by transforming anime figurines into vibrant, multi-dimensional sculptural compositions.

The trio uses a technique that combines pressure and heat to melt vinyl figures of manga and anime characters, reshaping them into intricate contemporary sculptures.

These melted anime sculptures not only offer a fresh perspective on anime culture but also challenge viewers’ perception of what constitutes art. The transformation of familiar, mass-produced objects into unique works of art creates a fascinating juxtaposition between the commercial and the creative.

Despite their international recognition, little is known about the individual artists that make up Three. They were all born in 1986 in Fukushima, and formed the collective in 2009, but other than that they prefer to keep their identities anonymous, letting their work speak for itself.
