Long Animals: Toy Design by Cristina Regidor & Arturo Moreno
Published Jul 6, 2020
Spanish designers Cristina Regidor and Arturo Moreno worked in collaboration to create ‘Long Animals’, a cool set of wooden block toys.
“Plastic in the current throwaway culture is a serious problem for the planet. This problem is aggravated when we talk about toys, because their life cycle is much lower than in other products. In addition, safety is more important for the sector than the impact of the toy once used, so 90% of the toys are made of plastic and of these 80% end up in landfills or in the ocean. The packaging of the toy is also a problem since it is thrown away at the time of opening the toy.
To solve this problem, we have created a completely wooden toy (product and packaging), generating an educational, durable and respectful product with our planet. To reduce waste, the inner piece of the packaging that protects the blocks is made of wood residues mixed with the fungus Pleurotus ostreatus. The mixture is inserted into a mold to grow mycelium, creating a light and ecological protective structure.”
