Layered Minds: Deconstructed Portraits by Julian Ardila
Published May 26, 2026
Colombian artist and graphic designer Julian Ardila creates illustrated portraits where the human figure is pulled apart, rewired and overgrown with floral motifs, looping lines, geometric marks and ornamental structures.
Across these illustrations, he splits the body open without ever losing its humanity. The method is surgical and the effect is visceral: identity, perception and psychological state rendered as visible anatomy.
The work moves fluently between detailed modeling, flat graphic ornament and loose gestural line, sometimes within a single piece. In his hands, the body stops being a container and becomes a diagram of perception, memory and psychological tension.
