Infinite Cycles: Bicycle Sculptures by Koichiro Azuma

Published Sep 6, 2023

When we think of bicycles, the image that comes to mind is a simple mode of transportation, but in the hands of Japanese artist Koichiro Azuma, they become extraordinary works of art. Azuma creates fascinating moving sculptures from metal and discarded bicycle parts, transforming these simple vehicles into multi-wheeled wonders.

The artist’s deep understanding of aesthetics and mechanics allows him to produce large kinetic pieces that are carefully designed and constructed to allow movement, bringing an additional layer of complexity and intrigue to his work.

Many of Azuma’s creations are displayed in public spaces, allowing spectators to interact with the installations and set their wheels in motion. Through these pieces, he visually portrays the notion that even objects or ideas that were once stagnant can regain momentum and propel forward.
