Amani’s work is deeply informed by historical contexts, particularly the era of “The Great Migration,” when Black individuals fled racial terror in the rural South to seek refuge in urban areas like Baltimore. These migrations brought with them memories, resilience, and a longing for connection to the land.

Amani’s powerful pieces often begin with a photograph, which the artist then distorts and saturates to create an aesthetic reminiscent of topographical or heat maps. By layering paint and textures over the prints, the artworks become vibrant, living sites teeming with life, energy, and complexity.
