Hound: A Robotic System for Safer Forest Management
Published Jul 31, 2026
South Korean designer Hyeonggyun Han has envisioned Hound, a multifunctional robotic concept created to manage wild boar populations and respond to emerging risks in forest environments.
Inspired by the old partnership between hunting dogs and human hunters, the system pairs a ground-based robot with a detachable aerial unit. The wheeled Ground Robot locates, follows and guides wild boars across uneven terrain, while the Aerial Robot tracks targets from above, administers tranquilizers and uses thermal sensors to identify early signs of forest fires. Together, the two units provide a coordinated alternative to conventional hunting methods that can place both people and animals in danger.
Hyeonggyun gives the concept a striking animal-like presence, combining an elongated body, articulated limbs and rugged wheels with smooth olive-green panels and integrated sensors. The drone fits neatly into the robot’s upper shell when not in use, while the entire system can fold vertically into a compact charging station.
