Green Season: Glorious Photos of African Wild Animals

Published Feb 16, 2023

As the African continent enters its annual ‘green season’, these stunning photos capture wild animals surrounded by lush vegetation and mesmerizing bursts of color. Lions, elephants, egrets and hippos are all seen in their natural environment during this bountiful wet season, which is at its peak in early February.

These spectacular images were all photographed by expert wildlife guides from Pangolin Photo Safaris, a company that gives lessons to tourists looking to capture the perfect image while exploring Kasane, in Botswana. German photographer Sabine Stols, who’s been working at Pangolin since 2015 explains:

“Green season is wonderful, and while Botswana is fantastic for photography all year round, this is certainly a special time.”

“When the rains come the trees are greener and the grass is longer so that often makes for more pleasing photographs rather than a brown background. If you like baby animals then there is certainly more ‘new life’ in the green season with most of the antelope species timing their birthing to coincide with the rains and new grasses. And if you like birds it is the perfect time of year, with so many more species to see and photograph.”

If you’re interested in a wild photographic tour, you can find more information on their website.
