Fish Market: A High Contrast Multipurpose Space by Ab Rogers Design
Published May 31, 2023
Fish Market is a bold and colorful multipurpose space that combines a residence and an artist’s studio within a raw industrial structure. Located in Kanazawa, Japan, the building was designed for artist Hiraki Sawa’s studio in 2022.
The task of making the artist’s building habitable fell to London firm Ab Rogers Design, who used a less-is-more approach to transforming the office into a hybrid live/work hideaway.
The interior of Fish Market is characterized by its design ingenuity, making it a flexible space that utilizes fluorescent rotating panels to encourage diverse uses. The “zones” created by these partitions can be adapted to various situations, serving as an art-making workshop, an exhibition space, a communal gathering spot, and more.
