Feather by Feather: Hyper-Real Bird Paintings by Petterson Silva
Published Apr 27, 2026
Brazilian painter Petterson Silva grew up in Mato Grosso, Brazil, deep in the heart of a region where macaws and parrots are not exotic curiosities but neighbours. His canvases draw from that proximity, isolating macaws, parrots and other native species against soft backgrounds that push every detail forward.
Working in oil, Petterson renders the plumage of Amazonian birds with a precision that makes the medium almost disappear. But beyond technique, there’s intent. He paints these birds as an act of advocacy, a case made in pigment that biodiversity and economic progress can coexist.
The compositions are simple and deliberate. Where another painter might reach for drama, Petterson goes for stillness, trusting that the chromatic intensity of these species, rendered faithfully, is argument enough.
