El Espíritu: A Mystical Identity for Premium Tequila

Ukrainian creative agency Vailio brings tradition and mystique to life with a bold identity and packaging system for El Espíritu, a premium tequila crafted in Jalisco, Mexico.

The studio developed the brand’s visual and verbal language from the ground up, starting with the evocative name El Espíritu (“The Spirit”), which reflects both the product category and a spiritual connection to its Mexican heritage. The jaguar, a sacred figure in ancient mythology that symbolizes transformation, anchors the visual identity and appears across labels, boxes, and brand materials as a guardian of the spirit.

Color plays a vital role in the system: a fiery burnt orange for Reposado, inspired by twilight rituals and agave roasting, and a mystical teal for Blanco, recalling the agave fields under moonlight. Paired with pyramid-shaped labels, tactile finishes, and slogans like “This tequila will haunt you,” the design honors tradition while avoiding category clichés.
