Effervescence: Surreal Technicolor Photography by Adewale Mayowa

Lagos-based photographer and multidisciplinary artist Adewale Mayowa invites us into a bizarre, dreamlike universe with Effervescence, a striking photographic series that explores the boundaries between reality, imagination and the subconscious. Through elaborate compositions and unexpected visual metaphors, Adewale creates scenes where time, space and everyday logic seem to lose their meaning.

His surreal imagery combines vibrant color palettes, theatrical staging and carefully coordinated costumes with an assortment of unusual props. Balloons obscure faces, clocks become recurring symbols and familiar objects take on mysterious new roles. Set against saturated backdrops of pink, yellow, turquoise and green, these meticulously constructed scenes have a playful, cinematic quality, often concealing darker undertones beneath their whimsical appearance.

Adewale discovered his artistic talents during his final year of medical school and eventually left his career as a doctor to pursue art full-time. His self-taught, multidisciplinary practice now spans photography, drawing, digital painting and animation. You can discover more of his work on his portfolio and Instagram.
