Design & Build Quality

Although the design is really beautiful, I wasn’t to crazy about the fact the border is made of plastic. It just doesn’t feel as high-end as a wood frame would. A different, better material would make it feel more like a gorgeous decor piece rather than just a gadget.

They also have a black version of the product with a larger 15.6 screen size, and the company says that new frame styles will be released soon. Even though I haven’t seen them IRL, the online photos I’ve seen led me to believe they’re plastic as well. All in all I think the brown ornate version I got is still the most beautiful one.

The first thing my mom noticed, however, is how the back of the frame reminded her of an old timey record player. After digging a bit deeper, I found out that they even won a design award for this little touch.

At first, I thought it was a bit strange, why go through all that trouble for the back of something no one would ever really see? But when my mom unpacked it, she absolutely loved it. To her, it felt nostalgic, like a little nod to a time she remembered fondly. It was one more unexpected way this gift connected with her in a way I never could have planned.

Effortless Setup

I got everything ready before sending the frame to my mom. Setting it up was very quick, within minutes of unboxing I had it connected to wi-fi, uploaded some photos and made sure it was ready to go. After sending it to her, the app made everything incredibly easy, even from the other side of the globe. It supports over 30 languages, great for moms like mine that don’t speak English very well. Once she received it, all she had to do was plug it in.

You can also separate your landscape photos from the portrait ones for a nice a cohesive look, depending on the orientation of the picture frame. It keeps everything feeling curated, rather than all over the place.

The frame also has a microSD card slot that can be used for additional storage. I thought this was great, as I can display travel photos straight from our camera, without having to sync or upload anything to the frame. It also has a USB port, but it only works with PC, not Mac. While the app mostly makes up for this, it’s still a bit of a limitation for Mac users like me.

Another minor con, every time you upload a new image, the frame makes a sound, which can get annoying if you’re uploading frequently, especially with the 12 hours time difference between my mom and I.

Performance

The picture quality is fantastic, bright, crisp and clear. The screen is not OLED, but blacks are impressively black. And my favorite thing, it even plays videos with sound, which really packs an emotional punch. The first time mom heard my voice come through the frame, it brought her to tears.

Another thoughtful detail is the frame’s automatic rotation feature. Thanks to a built-in sensor, the screen can tell whether it’s positioned vertically or horizontally and adjusts the display automatically. Whether my mom places it on a side table in portrait mode or hangs it on the wall in landscape mode, the photos and videos always look perfectly aligned, no fiddling with settings needed.

The touchscreen on the frame is incredibly user-friendly, it works just like a smartphone. My mom can easily pinch with two fingers to zoom in on a photo, swipe right or left to scroll between images, and switch between galleries without any issues.

I also love that you can display the time, date, and even the local weather right on the frame, making it not just a photo display, but a useful little hub she can glance at throughout the day.

The frame also has handy settings for sound, brightness, and even a sleep mode. I can lower the volume for videos, adjust the screen brightness to her preference and set it to turn off at night and on in the morning automatically. It’s simple little touches like these that make the frame feel effortless and homey and not like another piece of tech she has to manage.
