One standout example is the O Frame MX goggles, first released in 1980, featuring distinct features like a secure fit and reduced visual distortion that vastly enhances protective racing eyewear.

Then there’s the Eye Jacket, released in 1990, with a bug-eyed, angled design that offers polarized vision and impact protection, highlighting the brand’s commitment to creating bold designs without sacrificing performance.

According to Brian Takumi, Oakley’s Vice President of Brand Soul, one of the company’s guiding principles is to “design for the future, deliver for the present.” This belief is what drives them to blend unique designs with high-performance features. Oakley’s range of running sunglasses is a good example of this, with specific models like the Encoder Strike featuring an extended wrap lens design made with the patented O Matter frame material for durability, and a ventilated design for airflow.

Meanwhile, the Re:SubZero sunglasses have a unique shield shape, providing a dual lens aesthetic equipped with Prizm Lens Technology that enhances visual acuity. These are just some of the thoughtful touches that show Oakley’s commitment to combining form and function.

Major Collaborations

Over the years, Oakley has also teamed up with top athletes who have left an indelible mark on sports. In 2024, the brand partnered with French football star Kylian Mbappé to model its Latch Panel sunglasses.

These sunnies come with an innovative latch panel mechanism that lets wearers clip the shades to their shirts for easier access, a 5B cylindrical lens that provides an expanded field of vision, and thin ear stems that allow a comfortable fit under a helmet or a hat.

The company also collaborated with NFL star Patrick Mahomes to launch the Latch Panel Patrick Mahomes II Collection. It’s collaborations like these that have helped the brand promote its functional designs and unique vision to a broader audience.

Always Innovating

More recently, Oakley has continued to push the boundaries of eyewear design. Just in time for the 2024 Paris Olympics, they unveiled a sunglasses collection that features an innovative lens and frame technology.

The QNTM Kato sunglasses debuted at the Summer Games, boasting a unique design with their patented PhysioMorphic Geometry. This ensures a tailored fit, including customizable nose pads for a no-slip grip. Plus, they come equipped with PRIZM technology, which changes the lens tint in different lighting conditions to deliver enhanced color and contrast.

The company also released an Olympic edition of its Inner Spark Collection, which features eyewear frames with colorways inspired by the human nervous system.
