Collision by Lars Harmsen: An Enthralling Visual Expedition

German creative director and designer Lars Harmsen has spent the last 20 years pushing the boundaries on projects across typography, corporate design, and editorial design.

He served as a creative director at MAGMA Brand Design until 2014, helping it grow into one of Germany’s most prestigious design studios. He currently lives and works in Munich as a creative director at Melville Brand Design, a studio he co-founded six years ago. He is also a professor of design and typography at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences & Art, and head of Slanted Publishers.

His latest creative endeavor, Collision by Lars Harmsen, is an extraordinary visual journey into the author’s creative mind. The book features a broad collection of visual pieces exploring Harmsen’s work over the last decade.

To produce the powerful collages contained within the book, he has extensively deconstructed, sliced and spliced a number of his works including projects for Slanted Publishers, PosterRex, 100for10, and freelance pieces he created over the years.

German illustrator Raban Ruddigkeit shared some words on the new book:

“A year ago Lars bought a boat. He has actually been sailing all his life. He sails as a designer over the trends and hypes, over the egos and the shooters. In his work he connects drops to water and waves to a sea.”

“Now and then he expresses himself in his own graphic language. Especially when, as today, the sea becomes rougher and more uncomfortable. Then Lars brings out his unwavering compass—a true sailor only proves himself in the storm.”

The pages of the book are filled with bold and striking images, each one capturing a moment or idea that has inspired Harmsen over the years. Readers can expect to see everything from intricate typography and illustrations to gritty urban photography and abstract art.

The result is an eye-catching and enthralling collection of work that showcases Harmsen’s talent for creating visually impactful content.
