AYN Unveils the Odin 3 With a Sleek (and Very Familiar) Design

AYN has officially unveiled the Odin 3, the eagerly anticipated successor to the incredibly popular Odin 2 lineup.

The new design was revealed in an Instagram post and teaser video, and at first glance, it looks… maybe a little too similar to the Retroid Pocket 5. That said, it has a slightly different control scheme with asymmetrical analog sticks, and the grips do look chunkier (and potentially a bit more ergonomic).

For now, AYN is keeping things pretty light on details. The teaser focused mostly on the look of the device and its active cooling capabilities, but no word yet on chipsets, screen size or battery capacity. The one thing they did confirm is that, like past Odin models, the Odin 3 will be Android-based rather than x86.

The Odin 3 was recently teased alongside AYN’s other new handheld, the clamshell dual-screen Thor. While Thor is aimed at DS-style gaming, the Odin 3 sticks closer to the tried-and-true single-screen format. Together, they give AYN two very different angles in the crowded handheld space.

So far, no specs, pricing or release date have been revealed, just design teasers. AYN says more details are coming soon, and that’s when we’ll see how the Odin 3 really stacks up against rivals like the Retroid Pocket 5 and Ayaneo’s growing lineup.
