Capturing the Joy of Childhood: Plastic Heads by Ryan O’Donoghue
Published May 9, 2025
Ryan O’Donoghue’s “Plastic Head” project is more than just a love letter to childhood memories, it’s a creative exploration of the unique charm and character of collectible toys.
This fun series taps into a shared nostalgia for action figures and collectibles, making them pop with dynamic lighting and bold backgrounds. It includes close-up portraits of classic figures like “Macho Man” Randy Savage, He-Man, Robocop and even TMNT’s Michelangelo in his “Sewer Surfer” variant. Each image highlights the distinct character of these toys and captures their essence with a keen eye for texture and detail, essentially turning them into visual time capsules of pop culture history.
