Bristol Dockyards: How&How Turns a Historic Ship Into a City’s Cultural Quarter
Published Jun 23, 2026
Creative agency How&How has rebranded Bristol’s historic SS Great Britain experience as Bristol Dockyards, shifting the focus from a single ship to a wider cultural destination that includes the SS Great Britain, the Being Brunel Museum and the Brunel Institute’s maritime archive.
The identity moves away from familiar nautical blues, using a punchy pink inspired by Totterdown’s colorful terraces alongside bright greens, yellows, oranges and blues. A collage-led visual system brings together archival imagery, maps, torn paper textures, bold typography and dockyard details, giving the brand an energetic feel that connects the site more closely to the city around it.
Across posters, signage, tickets, digital passes and environmental graphics, the rebrand feels loud, layered and proudly Bristol. It gives one of the UK’s most important maritime landmarks a sharper voice while opening up the Dockyards as a broader day out shaped by history, engineering, culture and place.
