Growing up with two older brothers who excelled in professional wave riding, Thurston’s early years were steeped in the spirit of adventure and the allure of the sea. However, unlike his brothers, he found himself more drawn to the artistic aspects of the ocean rather than the competitive nature of surfing. This choice became clear during his first trip to Hawaii at the age of 17, where he traded his surfboard for a camera, embarking on a new path that would define his career.

Thurston views the ocean as a form of art, a canvas painted by the elements and the divine. “When I’m immersed in nature, I see intelligent design, I see intentional energy and irrefutable purpose in every detail, but above all, I see a very clear, artistic flair woven through every living and moving thing,” he says.

His ultimate goal with his photography is not just to create art but to inspire and provoke positive thought. He hopes his work encourages people to see life from a new perspective, one that is open to wonder and revelation.
