Brasil! Brasil! The Birth of Modernism: Exhibition Identity by Pentagram
Published Feb 6, 2025
Brasil! Brasil! The Birth of Modernism is a major new exhibition showcasing more than 130 works by ten influential Brazilian artists from the 20th century at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
Running until April 21st, 2025, the exhibition explores how Brazil’s creatives of the era embraced global trends, merged them with local influences, and gave birth to something completely unique. At the heart of this movement was the Anthropophagic Movement, a bold initiative to “swallow” and reinterpret international influences—European, African and Indigenous—into a distinctive Brazilian artistic voice.
Pentagram’s design for the exhibition perfectly captures this dynamic spirit. The bold graphics, anchored by a logo that echoes the shape of the Brazilian flag, channel the energy and intent behind Brazilian Modernism. Meanwhile, an intro film takes over the lobby with a flood of color, imagery and sound. The kaleidoscopic visuals are paired with a soundtrack that layers the vibrant sounds of Brazilian streets, nature and music, evoking the mood and texture of Brazil itself.
