Bodega Cats of New York: Portraits of the City’s Hardest-Working Felines

Published Oct 7, 2026

New York writer Dan Rimada and photographer Gulce Kilkis are celebrating one of the city’s most beloved fixtures in Bodega Cats of New York, a new book documenting the feline residents of neighborhood stores across all five boroughs.

The book pairs Gulce’s images with Dan’s stories of 60 cats and the shopkeepers who care for them. Some perch on counters or patrol crowded aisles, others curl up among boxes and stockrooms, each captured within the wonderfully cluttered environments they call home. The portraits show plenty of personality, but they also offer a glimpse into the everyday rhythm of New York’s corner stores and the relationships that form around them.

Through conversations with their owners, the book explores how these unofficial employees became part of their respective shops, from watchful mousers and delivery inspectors to familiar faces greeting generations of regular customers.

Published by Epic Ink, Bodega Cats of New York will be released on November 24, 2026. All images © Gulce Kilkis / Bodega Cats of New York. Shared with permission.
