Worlds Within Lines: Tim McDonagh’s Epic Illustrations
Published Jun 30, 2025
UK illustrator Tim McDonagh has a knack for packing entire worlds into a single image. Inspired by old comics, gig posters and tattoos, his work is a hypnotic blend of intricate linework and vibrant colour. Tim is an old-school draftsman at heart, every piece he creates starts with a pencil sketch, which he then hand-inks with a paintbrush before adding colour digitally.
From his award-winning New York Times Kids covers to his epic Star Wars book series, Tim’s illustrations have found homes with brands like Nike, Apple, Lucasfilm, Red Bull and countless others. Even after more than a decade in the business, the staggering detail in his work still manages to impress, and that’s exactly what keeps us coming back for more.
