Wonders in the Sky: Art Installations by Janet Echelman

Published Jul 27, 2023

Janet Echelman, an internationally recognized sculptor from Florida, has been transforming cityscapes across the globe for decades with her mesmerizing art installations. Known for her inventiveness and ability to push the boundaries of public art, Janet’s practice combines a range of disciplines, including sculptural work, urban design, computer science and technology.

Her most recent installation, aptly named “Current,” now graces the skies above the bustling intersection of Gay and High streets in downtown Columbus, Ohio. This massive twine sculpture, inspired by 150 years of local history, brings a contemporary look to the city while paying homage to its past.

Janet’s installations are more than just visually stunning, they invite viewers to engage with their surroundings in new ways, challenging perceptions of space and promoting a sense of community. Through her art, Janet is not only transforming landscapes but also the way we interact with them.
